Apsley Minor Hockey Rowan's Law Legislation - ACTION REQUIRED BY ALL AMHA PARTICIPANTS

This is an URGENT update regarding the legislative requirements under the implementation of Rowan’s Law by the Government of Ontario.

What is Rowan’s Law? Rowan Stringer was a 17-year old Ottawa varsity rugby player who died from sustaining multiple concussions resulting in a catastrophic swelling of the brain – second impact syndrome.   On March 7, 2018, Ontario passed Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018 and related amendments to the Education Act. However, it is important to understand that this applies to all Sport Organizations, schools, programs and businesses in the province. This is not a hockey ‘thing’ – it is legislation (Ontario Regulation 161/19) from the Government of Ontario.

All players, parents and team officials are required to complete the review of the information and acknowledge having done so prior to the beginning of the Hockey Season.  Player safety is extremely importation and we appreciate everyone's cooperation and understanding in this very important matter.

Acknowledgment forms for you to read and sign will be available at in-person registration nights. Age appropriate concussion awareness resources can be found at https://www.ontario.ca/page/rowans-law-concussion-safety and will also be available at registration.

If you are registering for the AMHA, this form must be completed by September 28th, 2019.  PLEASE NOTE THAT NO PLAYER OR TEAM OFFICIAL WILL BE APPROVED ON ANY OMHA ROSTER WITHOUT COMPLETING THIS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM.
